Dealing with Disappointment
Dealing with Disappointment
Often times we do not get the outcome we want, even though we did everything in our control to prepare and gave our best effort. How we respond in those situations determines what type of athlete we'll become. If you view every performance as a learning opportunity, a mistake or failure can fuel you to figure out new ways to improve or drive you to ask for help and seek out answers. Often times, what you learn in this quest can end up being more valuable than a win would have been. Champions become champions by their desire to continually improve and they're always looking for any tip, insight, or new skill that might give them that extra edge.
As you continue down your own path as a competitor, remember that success is largely determined by the challenges you face and how you choose to overcome them. It's about pushing yourself a little further every day, both physically and mentally, and not settling for average. This is how you develop resilience and mental fortitude that will aid you not just in sports but in every facet of life.
I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes my Michael Jordan. It's a good reminder that we all make mistakes, even the greats, and that they're an integral part of our ultimate success.
